The most commonly used caliper. The scale surface is stepped so that dust does not enter between the main scale and the slider. Since the end faces of the head of the main scale and the slider are set to the 0 (zero) base point (measurement surface), the level difference can be measured. The standard caliper can measure four steps in addition to the outside, inside, and depth measurements. The vernier scale has a gentle slope (14 °), making it easier to read.
